Cancellation and Refund Rules 

Refunds are applicable when users cancel the tickets through the Indirail Platform. The type of ticket determines the refund policy:

    1. Train Tickets Cancellation Policy
      1. Users can log in to the Indirail Platform to cancel the e-Tickets or file a TDR. Cancellation can be done online, and the refund will be credited back to the customer’s Card/Bank account used at the time of booking.
      2. The Train Chart is usually prepared four hours before the train’s departure. For a train starting morning (up to 12 noon), the chart preparation is usually done on the previous night.
      3. Fully waitlisted tickets will be auto-cancelled by Railways after Chart Preparation, and the refund shall be automatically credited to the customer’s card/bank account used at the time of booking.
      4. Agent Service Fee and Payment Gateway Charges charged by Indirail are non-refundable.
      5. Cancellations and refunds will be based on Indian Rail Refund and TDR filing rules. These rules are subject to change by Indian Railways. Indirail, though, makes an effort to keep the latest railway terms and conditions and Refund Rules visible on our platform, but cannot be held accountable in case of any changes.
    2. Cancellation Charges for Confirmed Tickets
      The amount deducted is based on the time of cancellation and the status of your ticket at the time of cancellation. Detailed explanations are given below: 
      1. If a confirmed ticket is cancelled online more than Forty-Eight (48) hours in advance of the scheduled departure of the train, a minimum per passenger cancellation charge shall be deducted at the flat rate:

      1. If a confirmed ticket is cancelled online between forty-eight hours (48) and up to twelve (12) hours before the scheduled departure of the train, cancellation charges will be deducted as follows:
        25% (Twenty-Five percent) of the fare is subject to the minimum cancellation charge referred to in clause 1(a) plus GST applicable for all AC Classes. 
      2. If a confirmed ticket is cancelled online within twelve (12) hours and up to four hours before the scheduled departure of the train, cancellation charges will be deducted as follows:
        50%(Fifty percent) of the fare is subject to the minimum cancellation charge referred to in clause 1(a) plus GST applicable for all AC Classes.
      3. Note: Chart preparation time is the time for the chart preparation from the Train Originating Station or from the Previous Chart Preparation station.

      1. No refund of fare shall be admissible on the e-tickets having confirmed reservation in case the ticket is not cancelled or the TDR is not filed online up to 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
      2. No refund of fare shall be admissible on RAC e-tickets in case the ticket is not cancelled or the TDR is not filed online up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
    1. Cancellation Charges for RAC and Waitlisted Tickets
      1. In case a wait-listed ticket is cancelled online, the refund of fare shall be made after deducting the cancellation charge of ₹ 20/- +GST per passenger, if the ticket is cancelled online up to four hours before the Scheduled Departure of the Train.
      2. If all passengers on a ticket remain on the waiting list after first charting, the user need not cancel such tickets. Such tickets will be cancelled automatically through the system, and the full refund will be credited back, without deducting any cancellation fees.
    2. Cancellation Charges for Partially Confirmed Tickets
      1. In case, on a party e-ticket or a family e-ticket issued for travel of more than one passenger, some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on waiting list, full refund of fare, less cancellation charge of ₹ 20/- +GST per passenger, shall be admissible for confirmed passengers also subject to the condition that the ticket shall be cancelled online or online TDR shall be filed for all the passengers up to four hours before the Scheduled Departure of the Train.
      2. In case, on a party e-ticket or a family e-ticket issued for travel of more than one passenger, some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on waiting list, full refund of fare without deducting cancellation, shall be admissible for confirmed passengers also subject to the condition that the ticket shall be cancelled online or online TDR shall be filed for all the passengers after first charting and up to thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
      3. In case of party e-ticket or family e-ticket issued for travel of more than one passenger, some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on the list of waiting list, then in case of passengers in waiting list not travelling, a certificate shall be obtained by travelling passengers from the ticket checking staff to that effect and refund of fare shall be processed online through TDR, indicating the details of the certificate issued by ticket checking staff and the online TDR shall be filed up to seventy-two (72) hours of actual arrival of the train at passengers’ destination and the original certificate issued by ticket checking staff shall be sent through post to Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi – 110055.
    3. Cancellation Charges for Wait List Tickets Dropped from Charting
      1. In case of wait-listed e-tickets on which all the passengers are on waiting list even after preparation of reservation chart, names of all such passengers booked on that Passenger Name Record (PNR) will be dropped from the reservation chart and refund of full fare will be credited back to the account from which booking transaction took place, without deducting any cancellation charges.
    4. Cancellation Charges for Full Cancellation of Train (from originating station to destination station)
      1. In the event of full cancellation of trains from source to destination, an automatic full refund of fare on confirmed e-tickets will be directly credited back to the account from which the booking transaction took place, and online cancellation or filing of a TDR is not required for use in such cases.
    5. Cancellation Charges for Partial Cancellation of Train
      1. In case of partial train cancellation, train diverted, train short terminated, etc., TDR is required to be filed online up to Seventy-Two (72) Hours of the Scheduled Departure of the Train at the Passenger’s Boarding Station.
    6. Cancellation Charges for Train Running More than 3 Hours Late and Passenger not travelled
      1. No cancellation charge will be levied and full fare will be refunded back to all passengers holding fully or partially confirmed tickets, if the journey is not undertaken due to late running of the train by more than three hours of the scheduled departure of the train from the station commencing journey subject to the condition that:
        1. The train is running late by more than three hours at the passenger boarding station.
        2. TDR is filed online before the actual departure of the train to avail of a full refund.
        3. All passengers booked on a PNR have not travelled.
      2. In case the ticket is cancelled, or if the request for a refund of fare is filed online after the actual departure of the train, no refund of fare will be admissible.
    7. Refund if the Railway administration is unable to provide accommodation
      1. Where a railway administration is unable to provide accommodation for any reason whatsoever to passengers holding reserved tickets, no cancellation charge shall be levied and a full refund of fare shall be granted to them if such tickets are surrendered for refund within 3 hours from the actual departure of the train.
      2. Provided that when the train is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances such as accident, breach or flood, the ticket is surrendered within 3 days, excluding the scheduled day of departure of the train.
    8. Refund on Partially Used e-Tickets
      1. If the passenger terminates the journey en route, a Certificate shall be issued by Ticket Checking Staff or the Station Master. The original Certificate has to be sent through post to “Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi – 110055.”
      2. File TDR online up to 72 hours after the scheduled departure of the train.
    9. Refund in case of AC Failure
      1. For AC Classes, if AC is not provided for part of the journey, then a refund of the fare shall be processed for that Part of the journey based on the conditions below:
        1. If the Ticket is for AC First Class, then the fare difference between AC First Class and First-Class fare
        2. If the Ticket is for 2AC or 3AC Class, then the fare difference between 2AC or 3AC and Sleeper Class Fare.
        3. If the Ticket is for AC Chair Car, then the fare difference is between AC Chair Car and Second Class.
        4. If the Ticket is for Executive Class, then the fare difference between Executive Class and First-Class Fare.
      2. In such cases, online TDR should be filed 24 hours of actual arrival of train at passenger’s destination station and the original Certificate (GC/EFT) issued by TTE at the time of journey should be send through post to Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi – 110055.
      3. Refund will be processed through TDR only after receiving the Original Certificate (GC/EFT). IRCTC will forward the claim to the Concerned Zonal Railways under whose jurisdiction the train destination falls.  After receipt of the refund amount from the said Railway, the refund amount will be credited back to the passenger’s account used at the time of booking.
    10. Refund if the Passenger is made to travel in the Lower Class
      1. If the ticket holder of a higher class is made to travel in a lower class, a refund of the fare difference between the booked class and the travelled class will be provided.
      2. Passenger is required to get the Certificate from the Ticket Checking Staff (TTE).
      3. File TDR online within 2 Days of the date of issue of the certificate.
      4. Send Original Certificate through post to Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi – 110055.
      5. Refund will be processed through TDR only after receiving the Original Certificate (GC/EFT). IRCTC will forward the claim to the Concerned Zonal Railways under whose jurisdiction the train destination falls. After receipt of the refund amount from the said Railway, the refund amount will be credited back to the passenger’s account used at the time of booking.
    11. Tatkal Tickets
      1. Tatkal tickets are non-refundable. No refund shall be processed in case of Confirmed Tatkal tickets.
      2. Refund in case of RAC and Waitlisted Tatkal Tickets will be as per Clause 3 – Cancellation Charges for RAC or Waitlisted Tickets.
      3. In case of Tatkal ticket issued for travel for more than one passenger, some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on waiting list, full refund of fare, less clerkage shall be admissible for confirmed passengers also subject to the condition that entire Tatkal ticket is cancelled up to 30 mins minutes before the scheduled departure of train.
      4. If a Confirmed Reservation has been provided to RAC or a waitlisted ticket holder at any time up to final preparation of charts, such ticket shall be treated as confirmed/partially confirmed, and Cancellation charges shall be payable as applicable to confirmed/partially confirmed tickets.
    12. Tickets Booked in Premium Special Trains
      1. Cancellation of both Confirmed and RAC tickets is not allowed in case the ticket is booked in a Premium Special Train.
      2. However, if the train is cancelled, a full refund will be processed into the customer’s account.
    13. Cancellation of E-Ticket
      1. E-Ticket can be cancelled online till preparation of charts, and a refund will be granted by the PRS system as per extant Railway Refund Rules.
      2. After preparation of charts, the user will have to file an online TDR for claiming a refund. The refund case will be decided by the Railways. The TDR can be filed by the same user who books the ticket. After receipt of the refund amount from the Railway, it shall be credited to the customer’s account used at the time of booking.
      3. No refund shall be granted on a partially Confirmed E-Ticket against which none of the passengers has travelled, if TDR is filed within 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
      4. No refund shall be granted on a Partial RAC/Waitlisted Ticket against which none of the passengers have travelled, if TDR is filed within 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train
      5. No refund will be granted in case of the train running more than 3 hours late, and TDR is filled with this reason after the actual departure of the train.
      6. In case of party e-ticket or family e-ticket issued for travel of more than 1 passenger, some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on RAC or waiting list, then in case of passengers on RAC or waiting list not travelling, a certificate shall be obtained from the   ticket  checking staff to that effect and refund of fare shall be processed online through TDR, indicating the details of the certificate issued by ticket checking staff and the online TDR shall be filed up to 72 hours of actual arrival of the train at passengers’ destination and the original certificate issued by ticket  checking staff shall be sent through post to  “Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi – 110055.”
      7. The cases in which TDRs are filed are decided by the Zonal Railway under whose jurisdiction the train destination falls. After receipt of the refund amount from the said Railway, the refund amount will be credited back to the customer’s card/bank account used at the time of booking.
      8. The user can cancel the train ticket of the customers on Indirail between 12:20 AM to 11:45 PM only.
      9. If the User is not able to cancel through the web interface before Chart Preparation, customers are requested to send an email to service (at) support@indirail.in (URL).
    14. TDR Refund eligibility as per the Railway Refund Rules

Please note that the decision about the acceptance/rejection or amount of refund will be taken by the concerned Zonal Railways as per the extant Refund rules of Indian Railways and not by IRCTC or Indirail.
